EMI Information

Understanding your EMI

EMI stands for Equated Monthly Instalment — the fixed amount you pay your lender every month until the loan is repaid. Each EMI is a mix of principal repayment and interest; early on in the loan, more of it goes toward interest, and that shifts toward principal as the loan matures.

What affects your EMI

Loan amount (principal)

A larger loan means a larger EMI, all else being equal.

Interest rate

Even a small difference in rate adds up significantly over a long tenure.

Tenure

A longer tenure lowers your monthly EMI but increases the total interest you pay over the life of the loan.

The calculator above gives a quick estimate assuming a standard reducing-balance loan. Your lender's actual EMI may vary slightly depending on processing fees, exact disbursal dates, and any promotional rates.
